Company History

For over 120 years, Suhm has provided a quality product for a changing world. Our business is built to grow with customer needs. Modern technology and old-fashioned integrity meet on our shop floor and extend to every part of our company.

When Carl Suhm, a young German immigrant, opened his small woodworking shop in 1885, he couldn’t have imagined its evolution. By the 1920’s, his son had taken an interest in scales, and Carl J. Suhm was regarded as the finest scale craftsman in Texas. By the time World War II was over, Suhm Spring Works had again evolved. Aided by the allied forces need for well-made industrial parts, Suhm began manufacturing compression springs. In the years since, over two more generations, Suhm has developed into the highly specialized, world-class manufacturing facility it is today.

Suhm Spring Works is an evolving business, one that moves with the demands of its customers. With the new century, technological progression and lean production have become critical to our success in the global market. As customer demands grow more exacting, so do we. Quality is priority one at Suhm, as it has been for the last 120 years.

Today Suhm has four manufacturing facilities in Texas and Mexico. By virtue of our four facilities, Suhm has increased flexibility and enhanced backup capability. In addition, our Mexico facility provides a lower cost facility for the manufacture of many types of springs. Few companies in our market can provide the breadth of products and the depth of manufacturing capabilities in multiple locations. Suhm also has a sales and design support office in The Netherlands for European customers.
